Tradition

The Tradition of Red Packet

Red packets are usually given to family members and close friends who visited throughout the 15 days of the new year celebrations. It is also a tradition for married couples to give the red packets to unmarried children and young adults in the family. In today's modern society, this rule does not really apply. Many people are now choosing to get married at a later age or not at all. Some couples do set age limits for whom they will give red packets to.

However, age and marital status does not play an important role as the deciding factors today. Employers are rewarding their employees with red packets, people are giving random people that they meet such as the trash collectors and servicing staffs red packets too. It is seen that the tradition has evolved in a different way where people practiced it to show some tokens of appreciation as well.
